SLD RPG

Introduction

This is a JRPG style game made in RPG Maker MV.
Unlike most JRPGs, combat and grinding experience and gold is not a major part of the game.
It is plot and dialog focused with only a few instances of combat.
Like most JRPGs, players will need to equip newly found weapons, drink potions or sleep to restore HP and magic, and save periodically.

There are also points in the plot where the dialog only provides a subtle hint as to what to do next. This is not like Skyrim with a quest map marker to follow.
When in doubt, talk to everyone. I limited the NPCs to just those who are involved in the plot to keep the game brief and make missed plot cues less frustrating.

The game is also made with streaming in mind.
For example, I minimized the instances of background music and sound effects so Star can play her preferred music and talk over the game.
I also cut some planned content from the later acts as well as NPCs from all acts, as mentioned above, to keep the game short enough for one stream.

I estimate the play time to be around 3 hours.

Controls

Move: Arrow keys

Action: Z or Enter

Menu: X or Esc

You can also click / touch the screen to move.
However, I do not recommend this as the engine’s path-finding isn’t great and your character may get stuck on things.

Fashion DLC

Go to the sink in Act I to change your hair and outfit.
It’s so real, you’ll believe you are Star.

Achievements

Act I:
Procrastination – Star’s mission is urgent but there’s always time for a nap or five

Act II:
Soggy Snack – Novel uses for small appliances
I Believe I Can Fly – Life is exciting when you’re living on the edge

Act III:
Field of Screams – Endure some verbal horseplay

Act IV:
No Soup For You – Insist that you’re really not hungry

Act V:
Meet Your Veggies – Hear the ground truth from a root vegetable
Ghost Stories – Chat with a familiar looking resident of the castle

Easter Eggs

The game is PACKED with SLD Discord and stream references and inside jokes. The SLDCU has a rich and deep lore.
To that point, while this game exists just to reference the lore, I couldn’t include everything. Sequel when?
Most of the references are in plot related dialog or character. Others I called out with Achievements.
Finally, there are references which can only be found by curious players exploring the world. I’m calling those Easter Eggs, as one does.

Here is a list of the Easter Eggs I remember:

  • Act I: Walk to the corner of the bed and the wall (BAD END)
  • Act I: Inspect the painting on the bedroom wall
  • Act I: Look at Comet’s notes (in your inventory)
  • Act I: Watch some TV
  • Act II: Talk to the spinning duck
  • Act III: Check out that sweet ride
  • Act IV: How about a snack?
  • Act VI: Chat with the friendly looking people
